Here's how this course works: For each topic, watch a video about how to use a program or function. Then watch another video with practice SAT® problems. You can try these on your own first before watching the video, or watch it for examples. Attached to each 'practice' video is a downloadable pdf file with the problems. Then take a quiz. Finally, refer to the list of real SAT® problems that you can practice on.

In the videos, we often refer to 'the forward way' and 'the backward way'. 'The forward way' means the 'real' way to do the problem. The way that makes your algebra teacher proud. Write and solve an equation yourself, know how to apply a theorem, understand the concept and reason it out.

We are generally NOT going to discuss 'the forward way' much. If you know 'the forward way', great! Do it, but only if you are 100% sure and your method is flawless and fast! BUT after you've decided you don't know 'the forward way' (or just don't want to spend the time doing it)... don't give up and don't guess at a method! Instead, switch modes to an alternate path to the right answer.

Enter 'the backward way'. Use a program to compute something you wouldn't have known how to do. Use Desmos to see an obvious feature of a graph or solve an equation. Use any of the various other techniques. That's what we're doing in this course... Backward ways.

Because it's mainly backward ways that we're doing here, not every concept tested on the SAT will be covered here. Some questions require forward ways, particularly the hardest questions. If the hardest questions are all you feel you need to work on, then consider signing up for private tutoring lessons to supplement this course. Meanwhile, this course will help you do the other questions faster and more accurately. If you follow these methods, you will have plenty of time to ponder the hardest questions.

Now, let's discuss your responsibilities. Simply having the programs on your calculator is not enough. Watching the videos passively is not enough. Follow along on your own calculator, using the programs and functions at the same time. Pause the video when needed. Try the practice problems on your own. Do the quiz questions. Practice is the key to success!

What you need

• TI-84 Plus calculator (any model, including CE)
• Data transfer cable / charger that came with it
• Any adapter needed to plug the cable into a Windows or Mac computer

Once the provided programs are loaded onto the calculator, the cable and adapter are no longer needed. The course can then be completed using any computer or device that accesses the internet.
